Pfizer Begins Deliveries of Vaccine to U.S.

Chartered flights bringing the drug from Belgium.

United Airlines is reported to have begun operating charter flights late last week to better position Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for distribution once the inoculation is approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

United will fly chartered planes between Brussels International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport as part of its “first mass air shipment of a vaccine.” The action is supported by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Pfizer has expanded storage capacity at specific distribution sites. They plan to use suitcase-size frozen storage in cargo planes and trucks to distribute the vaccines worldwide. United is being allowed to carry five times the amount of dry ice normally permitted on board to keep the vaccine at the necessary cold temperature.

There is a challenge in transporting and distributing the vaccine which must be kept at temperatures of minus 70 degrees Celsius or below.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the safe transportation, storage, and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.
  • For officials at the Food and Drug Administration who are charged with the emergency authorization of vaccines from several manufacturers.
  • That the vaccines would be effective in slowing the spread and eventually eliminating the coronavirus.
